Constitution for the College
Republicans
We, the students of Black Hawk
College, in order to form a unified group for the promotion of
Republican and Democratic ideals, policies, values and issues,
do hereby create the College Republicans group, and adopt this
document as our group Charter and Constitution.
Article I: PURPOSE
Section I:
The purpose of this group is to promote the ideas, ideals,
policies, values, and positions that are the current policy of
the Republican Party, or that we believe should be the position
of said party. Towards this purpose, the group will:
Section II:
Provide a forum for discussion of the issues, either through
regular meetings, or through specially conducted meetings or
events involving candidates or local speakers;
Section III:
Attempt to involve other students at Black Hawk College and
elsewhere in issues and policy through it’s meetings, seminars,
forums, and/or debates through the discussion of ideas in an
open forum;
Section IV:
Actively pursue other methods of encouraging students to become
involved in issues, policy making, and politics.
Article
II: MEMBERS
Section I:
Membership in the College Republicans should not be withheld
from anyone who wishes to become a member. Membership is readily
open to all students and faculty of Black Hawk College.
Section II:
There shall be no duty or fee for membership in the College
Republicans, nor shall there be any fee for attending the
regular meetings.
Section III:
Membership in the group is obtained simply by stating at a
meeting, to the faculty advisor that you wish to become a
member.
Article
III: OFFICERS
Section I:
Officers shall be nominated and elected by a majority vote of
the members of the group. Only members may become officers. Only
members may vote for officers. Offices held in the College
Republicans are elected at the first meeting of the fall
semester, and the elected term shall be one academic year. There
shall be four elected officers:
Section II: President-
The President shall preside over group meetings and functions.
It is the responsibility of the President to do their utmost to
attend any and all group meetings and functions and to notify
the other officers if they cannot. It is the responsibility of
the President to keep order in functions and meetings, and to
fairly and impartially make sure that all who wish to are
allowed to present their views. It is also the responsibility of
the President to act as an emissary for relations with other
politically oriented clubs.
Section III: Vice President-
The Vice President shall preside over group functions in the
absence of the President. It is the responsibility of the Vice
President to notify the local and college media of upcoming
events and to provide signs to promote upcoming events and
functions. It is also the responsibility of the Vice President
to notify members of upcoming events.
Section IV: Secretary-
The function of the Secretary shall be to take attendance at
regular meetings and to keep and update a current, master Roll
of Membership containing all members’ names and phone numbers.
Section V: Treasurer-
The Treasurer shall be responsible for organizing and
coordinating all fundraising activities of the group, and shall
also be responsible for the management and distribution of group
funds.
Article IV: MEETINGS
Meetings
of the College Republicans shall be held at least once a month,
and shall be open to all who wish to attend.
Article V: DENYING OR REVOKING
MEMBERSHIP
Membership
may be revoked or denied permanently by a 7/8 vote of the
current members of the College Republicans.
Article VI: IMPEACHMENT
Any
officer other than the President may be impeached by a 2/3 vote
of the current members. The President may be impeached on a 3/4
vote of the members. An impeachment vote must take place at a
regular meeting at which the officer to be impeached is present,
and they must be allowed to speak against their impeachment. An
election shall be held at the next regular meeting to fill the
impeached office if the vote is successful.
Article VII: RESIGNATION AND
SUCCESSION
Any
officer may resign their position, in writing at a regular
meeting. The office shall be filled by an election at the next
regular meeting. Officers may resign their posts to seek vacant
posts in any election. No person shall ever hold more than one
office.
Article VIII: AMENDMENT
PROCEDURE
This
Constitution may be amended by a 7/8 vote of all of the current
members of the group. Members not present at the vote must be
contacted to obtain their vote.
